Fuzhou Road (6/10/2012)

Sunday, June 10, 2012
To celebrate Kent's birthday, we spent most of the day at the Westin Bund Center Hotel for Sunday Brunch. The four (yes count them: four!) colleagues from BASF who share a June 10th birthday invited other colleagues to join them for an orgy of food.
Kent won a dinner at one of the hotel restaurants in a prize drawing;
Afterwards, we tried to walk off some of the calories. We followed Fuzhou Road, which was supposed to have several bookstores. I was hoping for cheap, used books, but no...
There were a lot of trophy stores:
The Foreign Language Bookstore:
They definitely had the best selection and stock of English-language books of any bookstore I have seen so far in Shanghai.
There were a lot of art and calligraphy supply stores:
Kent with some very big paintbrushes:
An even bigger bookstore:
Having reached Xizang Road, we crossed over to check out the underground shopping at People's Square. The basement of the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center is a replica of a 1930s Shanghai street:
and is full of non-1930s shops:
Further underground is a maze of shops, some eating places, and a games arcade:
Dance Revolution type games are very popular.
There is shop after shop of iPhone covers, with almost any logo you could ask for, and plenty of bling!
Happy Birthday, Kent, and Christine, John and Marc!
